The bigger the horse is I get more cautious I need to get over this or I will not pass my course.

I love horses but unfamilier ones freak me out like youngsters, stallions etc.

I've had horses take off while leading and riding, kick at me, bite while tacking up.

I have a 20 yr old horse and shes is very sweet its the unknown that scare me.

How can I get over this?

Being in the horse industry?I can't be like this:(

HELP!

  1. Welcome to the wonderful world of Equine Massage! I do this for a living, I haven't had your fear of new horses though. I CAN tell you what I do when I take on a new client.

I always make a "courtesy" call before I schedule a massage. I like to give myself time to get friendly with my future client. You can spend time outside the horse's stall familiarizing yourself, or you can join them in their stall. The easiest way is with treats of course...LOL! I personally like to meet them out in the open, with their owner (or Trainer) close at hand.

I have found it best to "meet" the horse one day prior to the massage so that you are still fresh on their mind. I casually introduce a few of the more pleasurable techniques at this time, then the next time they see you it will be with a piqued opinion of you... meaning they look forward to what other pleasures you are going to bring. The phrase "leave them wanting more" comes to mind. You should ask the owner/trainer about any personal quirks their horse has, this way you are somewhat prepared for what they can try.

Good Luck! I hope this helped a bit...
