My friends and i are taking a road trip to selma, tx from mercedes, tx. it is about a 4 and a half hr drive to get there. My parents keep plaguing my mind with doubts because they say my 2001 ford focus is going to break down on the way. I wanted to know if this is a high possiblity or if they are just trying to get me not to go. and if it is a possiblity how can i prevent this from happening?

  1. How many miles, what shape are the tires in, and how well maintained has it been?

  2. If mom and dad are having doubts about the car, I would not dismiss their concerns out-of-hand.

It would have been nice for you to give us ANY information about how the car runs and has been maintained.  It sounds like you might be one of those "turn-the-key-and-go" types.

Here's what you need to do:

Find a local auto repair shop (hopefully one that offers free estimates), and have them give it a once-over.  Tell them that you don't want to spend gobs of money, but you want the car for that trip and don't want to worry about breaking down.

Chances are good that they'll work with you.

  3. I know nothing of the history of your car but I would defer to Mom and Dad as they probably do and are concerned about you as no one else is.
