  1. Actually the legal age for drinking beer and wine in France is 16. To drink distilled alcohol (whiskey, cognac, etc) the age is 18.

But there is essentially no enforcement of this law. You´ll rarely get "carded" or turned away in a café, bar or liquor store because of it.

This doesn't mean you will be welcome in every night spot in Paris. Many places will have age restrictions not because the law requires it but because of their own policy.

If you're looking for some night spots where you will be allowed in you're likely to do best in the 5th arrondissement (the Latin Quarter) which is tradtionally the student district.

The dollar is currently worth about 3/4 euro (0.742446 euros to be exact) but  that number is deceptive since you won't actually get an exchange rate that good. Further the exchange rate changes minute by minute and its not possible to accurately state what it will be at next march.

My expectation is that the dollar will be trending stronger against the euro over the next year so perhaps you will get a better rate.

Some other things you might do:

    1) Check out the big plaza in front of the Centre Pompidu (Which contains the Museum of Modern Art). On most sunny afternoons you'll find all sorts of street entertainers there. Among these will almost always be some guys doing big involved audience participation comedy bits. When they call for volunteers (and they always do) don't hesitate to stand up. The fact that you probably don't speak French will be NO problem. These guys tend to be very good and very funny. You'll have a great time and if you can have someone snap a picture you'll have a great story to tell when you get home (and a photo to prove it).

    2) If you have a skateboard bring it along and head over to the Forum des Halles (which is only a few blocks from the Pompidu). You'll find a lot of young skate board enthusiasts hanging out there. A chance for a great photo of you doing a 180 frontside ollie in the Parisian equivalent of the Mall.

    3) At ten p.m. every Friday night thousands of people gather in the the Place d'Italie and proceed to rollerskate thru the streets accompanied by a special Police unit to clear the way and keep them safe.

Generally I'd say that 17 years olds in Europe aren't any different or any better or worse than 17 year olds anywhere.

So if you and the people you are traveling with make a point of being open to meeting people your own age in Paris you can. And once you do then they will let you know where they are going to be partying at night. (I'm an old geezer so there's probably lots of places I've never heard of that every 17 year old in Paris knows about.)

  2. one thing that i cant help u with bring LOTS OF MONEY!!!!

    paris is an expencive place

    VERY

  3. Paris is expensive for someone from the US.

If you are 17 then you are not allowed to go to nightclubs or buy alcohol. They check your identity card/passport at the entrance. Majority is 18 in France.

Not what you wanted to hear, sorry.

  4. for the clubs just say you are 18 and that you  don't have your passport and it's almost always ok
