  1. 1. Windscreens have been part of the annual MOT test since the early 1980s. And, a damaged windscreen - one with a crack or chip, for example, can cause your vehicle to fail the MOT. If it would have failed the MOT, then the examiner will not allow you to take the test in it, and you will lose your test fee.

However, a lot depends on where the chip is in relation to the driver's field of vision and the size and extent of the windscreen damage. Even a chip on the windscreen as small as a 5 pence piece could be enough to cause your car to fail the MOT test and prevent you from taking the driving test.

If the car is insured in your name, it may be worth speaking to your insurer. Often, if they can repair the windscreen using liquid glass rather than replace it, it will cost you nothing. Even if they have to replace it, it will only cost you the excess, then you will be able to take your test.

2 & 3 Are both cases where you have to turn your car round in the road to face the opposite direction. You do this by turning your car towards the kerb on the opposite side of the road, reversing back towards the kerb you were originally at, then turning in the opposite direction so that your car is facing the opposite direction.

If you have had lessons prior to your test, you should have been shown this manoevre in depth as it is something you need to practice at to get it right.
