My driving exam is in 2 weeks.

Im 18 years old and have had a provisional licence for 2 years.

I would like to use my dads car, to take the exam as i dont like the cars the examiners have.

The car is a 2004 bmw 3 series 1.8.

Its a well maintained car and suffers from no faults.

However i need to insure my self with the car, as a learner driver maybe?

My dad has tried to add me with his insurance policy, Churchill.

However they said they cannot accept learner drivers as i need to be 18 (which i am), and must have a full licence for atleast 1 YEAR. But that makes no sense because how am i supposed to have a full licence if im GOING to take my test..

Is there any insurance companies out there that will insure me?

Please help.

Thanks

  1. Call a local broker in your area and ask if you can get a day-permit for insurance. I had to do this because to register my car i had to drive it to the place and i didnt have insurance.. It was like $30 and then you have insurance for one day, just make it the day of our exam.

Then once your a licenced driver you can get insurance from whomever you please.

  2. To be insured you must be a licensed driver. You can be added to your parents policy with a permit, then later as licensed normally. But your dads insurance company sounds really weird. Ive never seen any with those rules, and ive dealt with many over the years. No company insures drivers with just permits, unless they are on their parents policy. Your dads policy should cover you to take your driving test anyway, and then when you are licensed, get your own insurance.

  3. In general in the U.S., most drivers that are "Resident Relatives" are covered Insured's in the event of operating a vehicle of the household, unless otherwise LEGALLY OMITTED from the Policy, especially the child of the Policy-Holder.   In the U.S., Individual States regulate their Auto Coverages and standards.  In other words,  if an automobile is operated by say a friend or child of an insured and operated with "permissable use," coverage would be afforded to you in the event of a Loss as it would the Owner of the Policy, as a permitted Operator whether operating under a Learner's Permit, or Official Driver's License

  4. I haven't had auto insurance for a number of years and my homeowners insurance wouldn't give me auto unless ihad it for a year somewhere else. I went with Geico because they had the best rate. Check into insurance online, they ask questions to find a rate for you.

    Good luck

  5. will you be driving his car for test? it has insurance on it already and thats all you need.... dont have to have your name on it and really any insurance company would insure you i bet you could even find a better one just by looking in phone book for a few numbers
