  1. you do need the dads permission

    go to any notary public

bring the dad, he will sign a paper stating he gives permission

it should cost you around $15

if you want to kidnap him then you dont need one since they will only ask you for this paper once you return with the kid to the us

  2. It is Mexican law that the minor have written, notrized permission from the absent parent.  See site below.   just type up a short letter , have him sign it in front of a notary and stamped and signed by the notary. See site below and read section on minors under Entry Rerquirements.

  3. In the past, I have always had a letter, but have never been asked for it.  I just took my 2 daughters at the end of May, and the travel agent told me I don't really need it.  Especially as a Mom, people don't really question you taking your kids.

If you want to have one just in case, you can simply write your own.  Something along the lines of: Dad gives mom permission to travel to Mexico on these dates.  Mom is authorized to make any life or death decisions as necessary.  Signed, Dad, date     (My bank will notarize for free, as long as you are their customer.)

  4. I was there a week ago and my son is 5 he didnt need anything but his passaport his father did not travel with us

  5. Hey, so I just asked baiscally the same question for myself and found out that if you are under 18 you must have written, notarized permission from both parents if traveling alone, written, notarized permission from absent parent if only traveling with one parent, and a death certificate accompanied by a parent or written, notarized permission to travel if one parent is deceased...

Anyways, yes. You must have a written, NOTARIZED permission to take your son to MX if his dad is not going as well.

    Hope this helped...

    Original source:Travel Documents for Minors:

A valid passport or your birth certificate with embossed seal

When a minor is traveling alone, they must have a notarized letter signed by the parents or legal guardians giving them permission to travel.

When a minor is traveling with one adult, provide a notarized letter signed by the parent or guardian not traveling giving them permission to travel with the other parent or guardian.

If the minor is in the custody of one parent, a notarized custody document should be provided.

If one parent is deceased, provide the death certificate.
