1. Practice on a board in your garage or something. But lay down flat on your belly, and try to stay towards the middle/back area of the board. Act as if you are paddling. Then you are going to have to go into a pushup type of stance and lift your body up off of the board so that you are in a crouching type of stance on the board. Then you can readjust from there. Keep your feet sideways to the board, but they dont have to be completly perpendicular. keep them sideways and slightly pointed forward. The further you are back the better control you will have over the board, but since you are just learning, try to stay between the middle and the back so you dont fall backwards and sink. Keep leaning forward. If you fall, then you are in control to jump off to the side, if you are leaning backwards, you can fall back onto the board. That hurts. But just get ready to paddle as hard as you can to stay up with the wave. Also, when your paddling, use your chest to counter the weight that your arms are going to be throwing around. besides that, just try to keep your balance, if your friends have an indo board or a skate board, you can start to work on your balance on those... Good luck and hope you fall in love with the sport!

 2. try skateboarding some before you go it will help with balance

 3. What ever u do dont practice getting up on your knees! This can lead to a bad habit, thats hard to break....Also always keep your legs/knees bent, never stand straight up...Make sure u practice at a beach where their are other beginners and stay out of peoples way..

 4. Just practice going from a lying down position (on your stomach) to standing up in one motion. Use your arms to push off the floor and jump up.

 5. Um...they'll teach you everything. You'll probably be able to ride a wave within an hour.

 6. a lot of surf schools usually teach you all you need to know on shore before you paddle out, my tips are be energize because surfing is mostly paddling, if you don't think you can handle the wave thats coming don't go for it, and don't get cocky if you feel your nose is digging in you're either too far forward on the board or you're not arching your back when you're trying to catch a wave don't just paddle a few stroke paddle till you feel your self pick up speed gradually lift your hands out the water and if youre still gliding than you can get up, if you think youre going to fall, fall backwards instead of diving

 7. Watch out for sharks

 8. Don't fall off.
