The vitamin is call L-Lysine L-Ornithine L-Arginine and the instruction said for adults to take 4 pills before going to sleep, it didn't say anything about kids. But im 14 and i heard that taking it could make me grow taller so i bought it and since im only 14 im only taking 2 instead of 4 before going to sleep. But still is it okay for me?? Will it hurt me in anyway??

  1. You don't stop growing until you are 18. I would wait to consider any drug that you are going to put into your body especially if it is not prescribed by a doctor.

  2. There currently are no efficacy requirements for these supplements.  That means that the seller does not have to prove that they actually do what they claim that they do.  I personally don't think anything other than a well balanced diet is going to affect how tall you are going to be.  It is genetic.  Eat lots of fruit s and vegetables and you'll be healthier, smarter, faster, and more attractive!

  3. They're just amino acids (the building blocks of protein) and at that dosage, they aren't going to hurt you.

L-arginine stimulates pituitary release of growth hormone, L-Lysine is an essential element in bone growth, and L-Ornithine increase levels of anabolic hormones such as insulin and growth hormone.

Studies are inconclusive as to whether or not supplementation of these aminos is of any use for encouraging growth, but they have found them to be effective for speeding healing.

  4. You are likely to grow exactly the same amount with or without these amino acids as long as you get plenty of protein, calcium (milk) and zinc.

These amino acids are mainly intended for midgets and dwarfs who have a malfunctioning pituitary gland that is not releasing sufficient HGH for normal growth.  Very few kids have this problem so taking these amino acids will not help  the growing process.

You can find further information in a web search for "amino acids to grow taller" which also mentions side effects.  Hopefully you won't suffer any adverse and terminal side effects at your young age.

  5. They are not for growth but promote a healthy immune system.

  6. Do NOT take more than is indicated, and would halve for being a teenager.  Extra protein (very lean meat, lowfat dairy products) will possibly help make you taller, not supplements, and it may be too late if you've already started menstruating.  These are amino acids which are the building blocks of protein, but they are NOT a complete protein.

  7. ummm i would stop taking them and go to the doctor to make sure its ok first bc sometimes things ike that can harm u instead of helping you!

    Good Luck :)

  8. Vitamin supplementation is generally not effective because micronutrients work synergistically with other chemicals within the food to produce the effect. Although we can identify beta carotene as the active nutrient in a carrot, when extracted from the carrot your body cannot efficiently absorb and use it because it requires other unknown chemical combinations within that food to be effective (Michael Pollan, "In Defense of Food" 2008)

The ingredients in those supplements are ammino acids, and you can just as effectively get them from the food you eat.

I have never heard of L-Lysine as being attached to making a short person grow.  It will help you develop and mature but only within the capacity of your genetic and biological limitations. If your genes do not let you be tall, no amount of an external substance is going to change that.

By taking these pills without the guidance of a trained herbalist or dietition, you run the risk of developing toxicity.

Although I do not think this particular supplement will harm you, I feel it will be somewhat useless. Save your money and buy a good tank of gas.
