  1. Don't just do it because it looks like fun. It takes A LOT of work, much more than people give credit for. You must be dedicated. You definitely have to do ballet before starting pointe. Once you have been dancing for a while, you will need to talk to your dance instructor to see if he or she thinks that you are strong enough to go on pointe yet. It all depends on the strength of the ankles. If you are not strong enough, you can get a serious injury.

Good luck and hope this helps!!!

  2. NOOOO!!!!!!!  It takes years of technical training and you have to be REALLY STRONG in your ankles and abs.  (Trust me, it's not all that fun - you get killer blisters and huge bunions.)  While it only took me about 3 to 4 years to go on pointe, I had really good and intensive training from the best ballet school.  Their teachers were excellent and no other school was better - they were pretty darn close to being as good as the city schools too!  So, you'll have to work your way up and work really hard.

  3. you have to work your way up....I was doing ballet for 10 years before they decided they wanted me to go en pointe. But it takes at least 3 years going 2-4 times a week before you are considered for pointe..the only reason it took me 10 years was because i started really young.

  4. No as the first response said you cant just start on pointe. Ballet takes a lot of practice hard work and dedication to be able to get en pointe. Not only that but your ankles have to be strong enough and you calves also have to be strong. I've been taking ballet off and on since i was three and i'm still not able to do pointe although i work everyday to make my ankles strong it takes balance and years of practice. You should consider finding a studio that can cater to your dance ability towards ballet and take a few classes to see if thats what you really want to do! Its not all fun and games and easy like i said it takes strength time and patience to really learn the techniques of ballet. I still feel like i have things to work on even though I've been dancing for so long. you should really try it out!

  5. whoa, definitely work your way up, your ankles have to be strong and you have to dedicated, not just, oh i think ill do this. you should have quite a bit of ballet training. it would be nice to have info about your dance background and how old you are etc... before we can say, but i would suggest going to a studio and talking to them to get their opinions.

  6. You have to work your way up! You have to do ballet for at least 5+ years before you can go en pointe. You require a lot of ankle strength for pointe shoes, and you could really hurt yourself going en pointe if you are not ready.

**Ballet takes dedication, and you have to be very patient if you want to get en pointe. Trust me, it takes some time....

  7. Pointe is a very technical ballet and you must be classically trained otherwise you can injur your ankles and knees. I suggest you start off with some basic ballet classes to work on your technique and  when they think you are strong enough they will talk to you about starting pointe. I have been doing ballet for 11 years now and i started  pointe 2 years ago when i was 11.

A lot of people start pointe too early and because of their weak ankles they often hurt themselves and get into bad technique habits.
