Im thinking if i should get a body kit or lower it?

i have a 1988 VW cabriolet.

and which would be cheaper?

It would be cheapest to not do anything. Your just gonna rice the thing out and make it look bad. Besides, it's an 88 so it may not last long enough for you to enjoy the modification. Anyone I have ever talked to says it's only advisable to make modifications like that to a lower mileage car unless it is a collector car.

I think lowering it could be the cheaper option unless you get a really cheap, crappy body kit. But then again, I'm not into the whole tuner/ricer scene.

Lowering would be cheaper. Body kits have to be painted and that aint cheap. When you lower it the camber and tracking will be affected so you need to get these checked as well.
