  1. A ball python would be a good choice. they are very docile, slow moving, non violent creatures. they are so beautiful. and if they get scared or nervous or uncomfortable theyll just ball up, hence their name. as long as you dont touch their head or tail theyre fine. as long as your comfortable with the idea of feeding it rodents. depending on the previous owner/breeder it will either need live mice/rats or you might get lucky enough to get one that eats frozen/thawed mice/rats. they can grow to about 4-5 feet and wont outgrow a 20 gallon tank.

Wonderful snake for beginner reptile owners and experienced alike. although just a suggestion- dont buy it from petco/petsmart or any of those chain pet stores. theyre conditions are horrible and they will be nervous, and muchhhhh more expencive. go with a breeder. i got a normal ball for 30$ which i know is in superb condish and has cared for. petco/smart wants 80$ for their import babies that are prolly in worse conditions then before they came over!

  2. well i used to be deathly afraid of snakes lol. but then i got interested in them and really wanted one. i got a ball python because they stay relatively small and are very docile. i had never held nor touched a snake before i got my own but i quickly warmed up to him. i would recommend one any day. as long of course, youre willing to spend time to take care of them and such.

  3. A corn snake will grow quite long.  My son-in-law's is quite big and he's had him for years.  He just mated him last year.

  4. For a first time snake owner kingsnakes, cornsnakes, and milksnakes all make good pets.  Kingsnakes and milksnakes can get around 5' long or so and some cornsnakes can get to 6' long.  Kings milks and corns stay pretty skinny when full grown.  A lot of pet shops will tell you that ball pythons make good first time snakes but they really don’t…ball pythons take specific humidity requirements and ball pythons can go on really long hunger strikes (like for a year) which by the end of it both snake and owner are stressed out.  Ball pythons get around 4' - 5' long and they are kind of thick.  Kings, corns, and milks can tolerate handling and don’t need a whole lot of humidity.  And they are usually docile snakes.

    Good luck!

  5. A corn snake would suit you. they rarely bite, and they are a

medium size. Don`t forget they eat rats.(or mice)

  6. well a ball python would fit what you want but are not good beginner pets. you should get a milksnake, sand boa or rosy boa. they are small no bigger than 5 feet for rosy and sand and no bigger than six feet with milk snake.

  7. the best beginner snake in my opinion is a corn snake. They don't get big (under 3 feet average), and do not have a tendency to bite. I suggest you research ALOT before getting one, though, since you might want to be ready for anything. Try checking out this site: http://www.cornsnake.co.uk/Care.htm

Corn snakes don't need to be fed everyday, in fact once or twice a week will usually be fine.
