  1. First off rats are far too social to be kept alone. If you get a rat, it needs a same s*x friend. Second of all, if you don't want it in the house, you don't really want it. Our pets belong indoors with us. The temperature is not regulated well enough in a garage for rats to be kept in there. Do some research before you consider a pet:

  2. You should never have just one rat, you should always have two or more, all the same s*x.

You can keep any pet in a garage as long as it is climate controlled. That means it has A/C for when it gets hot, and heating for when it gets cold. It also needs to be free from other pests like wild mice, cockroaches, and other outside bugs.

Just so you know, most garages are not climate controlled, so most people would not be able to keep a pet in their garage.

  3. Yes of course u can

You should get a box to out in their cage, fill it with tissues or newspaper and every night heat up a wheat bag or hot water bottle. That should keep them warm. Other than that, a heat lamp is probably your best option. You should be able to pick one of those up from your pet store for about $20.

  4. well ya... but thats just gross...

  5. If you keep your rat in the garage, make sure the car doesn't get parked in there! The fumes will kill the rat super fast!

And please get two rats, they thrive on the companionship!

  6. Rats are absolutely fabulous pets!

I have had them for years and they are the most darling, loving little creatures!

A rat is quite easy to take care of, inexpensive to feed and care for, and an extremely intelligent and friendly animal. They are only stinky when they haven't had their cage bedding changed, so you'll want to change it once a week. Most cages make it super-easy to change and have a tray on the bottom that you simply slide out and dump.

Often prone to respiratory infections, you need to make sure they are not in a environment that is extremely cold. Otherwise, they stay very healthy and are hardy little animals and are easy to keep well.

You can actually teach them tricks and they are really affectionate. they are quite social and live in "packs," so I would recommend two of the same s*x. Males are generally more friendly, but I have had females who were so sweet and eager to hop on my shoulder. Just make sure to handle them daily- especially when you first get them and they are young! Males are also stinkier and get much larger than the females.

Be sure you understand all the aspects of having a rat and have educated yourself from researching on the Internet.

    Good luck!
