the thing is his is a 1998 civic coupe ex or dx NOT an si would this still work?

an Si is just a glorified ex. just has different trim and motor. thats all. take off the interior and the motor and the Si trimming and such and there ya go its an ex. so yes it will work. but its kinda ricey in my opinion to put something in ur car that isnt made for it. but hey go ahead.
