Enemas are totally unnecessary.

All you need is plenty of fiber and roughage that you can get from plenty of fruit and vegetables (both fiber and roughage) and bread, cereals and pasta (fiber).

The best way to have an e***a is with the proper equipment (nozzle and bulb or bag) - the two formulas I've used are a litre (for adults) of water with a pinch of salt, or water with about half a bottle of liquid glycerin mixed in.   You can get the equipment online if it's not in your local pharmacy - or if necessary there's usually a practice nurse at your doctor's surgery (in Britain at any rate) who'll administer it for you.

Remember it'll completely empty your bowels of doodoo, so you won't have to do any more during the next 24-26 hours.

Fleet enemas are very effective and efficient.

Unless you have something really seriously wrong with you that has you constipated that you need a stick of dynamite to move things along, then a Fleet will generally do the job well.

Just follow the directions on the box. They usually work in 5 to 15 minutes so if you can hold it longer you aren't doing too bad.
