  1. Happened to us  .  Similar.  came to a complete  dead  end

  2. Marrage certificate would give you

name and date of couple getting married - their occupations - there fathers name and occupation - address's and names of witnesses

  3. Do you know if your great grandmothers aunt had any children of her own.

If so, one of their birth certificates would give you her maiden name.

Have you found the family on a census

If you dont have access to census, let me know the names and the area they lived and I will have a look for you.

  4. You might find something in parish records, but I doubt the adoption records (if they exist) would be as reliable as they are now. Also, it may have been the case where the biological mother left her child with family without any paperwork. You may have to accept that you can't get back any further.

  5. Yes a marriage certificate would give you her maiden name and probably her age so you could back track to a birth or a baptism.

    Good luck and good hunting

  6. yeah defo get the marriage certificate, it will say her full name, and also message that other family tree

  7. If she was adopted back then she may well have been illegitimate.

  8. Your great gran was born much more recently than 1721.

That means the census returns are going to be useful.

Have you checked the marriage certificate for her?

It was common for unofficial adoptions to take place. If a daughter was pregnant sometimes she was sent away  to another family member until after the birth and they bought the child up.  Sometimes the families were just too big and needed help.  There are lots of scenarios.
