  1. If you are staying there, bring a gun, very dangerous part of Dallas. That area is close to downtown, so a good weekend hang out area is deep ellum.

  2. There are a number of places close by.  Gilley's (aka The Palladium), Poor David's Pub and Lee Harvey's are all great bars (Gilley's is also a good sized concert venue with national touring acts) in that area close to a large development called Southside on Lamar.

Downtown (just to the North of 75215) is peppered with bars and restaurants throughout. Downtown Dallas largely shuts down at night.  However, folks are working hard at redevelopment and bringing residential downtown to help create a more health and lively downtown.  Currently though, there isn't much of a "strip" to hang out in although Elm and Main host the largest number of night-time locales.

The West End (of downtown Dallas) used to be the heavy tourist bar/nightclub area, but it has largely died out with many venues opening or re-opening several blocks north in a new development called "Victory Park".   Victory Park is an upscale area with a some nice bars  (*****, House of Blues, Victory Tavern, Hooters) and several higher-end restaurants.  The area is anchored by the American Airlines Center and the W Hotel.

Deep Ellum, to the east of downtown, was once the hip, happening bar/club neighborhood, but has largely dies out as well.  There are still several bars and clubs along the Elm, Commerce and Main in Deep Ellum, but many of the best and long-time venues have closed in recent years.  Given the age group you mention, I'm not sure that it is worth considering.

Lower Greenville is an area northeast of downtown and is the closest thing to a hang-out "strip" of small bars, restaurants and clubs where one can hang-out and bar hop a bit.  There are 3 different sections of night life all along Greenvile Avenue between Ross and Mockingbird - each separated by several blocks of residential.  The neighborhood is predominantly residential which can make parking a challenge at times.

I live in 75215 and it is quickly becoming a highly desirable and trendy area - transitioning from a largely underdeveloped and industrial area adjacent to downtown
