  1. lived in Rome for 3 years, go to a place called SPERLONGA. It is by the sea and not long on the train. It is very beautiful you will not want to leave, better for two days. Have a really god time in Rome whatever you do. John

  2. Make sure you book a walking tour and a tour of St peters, Vatican City, and the Sistine Chapel to get the most out of what your looking at !

I took one with Rome revealed a few years back and it was brilliant!

    Philip

  3. Yes. Don't sit down in the piazza navona. They won't let you get up until they've taken every euro out of your pocket. 8 bloody quid for a really small coffee! Romantic my eye!

  4. hi!

    i'm living in Rome!

just ask more precise questions and i'll help you in all known ways! do you need of a Cicero? i can handle it!

    just call me back

    ciao!

  5. We went in February - it is a fantastic place!

We missed out on the Vatican as it is only open until midday.

Make sure you visit the Forum. If you imagine it in the days of Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony, it must have been awesome (as much of Rome is).

We stayed about 100 yards from the Pantheon, and walked to all the sites. It's a relatively small city, so you shouldn't really need to use public transport.

Be careful crossing the roads - there does not appear to be a highway code in Rome!!

Lastly, be careful eating out. The food was great, but we ended up spending £60, £100, and £150 on the 3 nights we were there! The wine adds up!! I would suggest wandering around a few back streets and finding smaller, less expensive places to eat.

Anyhow, have a fantastic time, and say "hi" to Benedict for me!!

  6. i would recommend buying a €4 BIG ticket on the evening you get there to use the following day. you can use it on the metro, tram and city buses until midnight on the day of validation. they are really good value.

pickpockets are rampant so be careful

dont eat near the main attractions if you can help it, it will cost you a fortune and the food is much better on a small side street away from the hustle and bustle

as for places to see, i dont think there will be much time left for a daytrip outside the city.

if you want to see the sistine chapel, you must be down there early, this doesn't mean forcing yourself out of bed at 8am, you want to be in the queue at 7am to 7.30am so go find it the evening before so you know where youre going.

when you come out of there you can go round the corner to the vatican. you will put in half a day here especially if you go up to the cupola which i highly recommend. views are great and it is fun if you have a head for heights (and legs for 500 steps)

you could put in another day doing the colosseum and roman forum (give the 'gladiators' €2 or 3 BEFORE you take the pictures or the cheeky gits will ask you for a fiver if you wait until after), the mouth of truth, the pantheon and the trevi fountain.

other places worth seeing are circus maximus, piazza di spagna, baths of caracalla, quirinale (presidents house), piazza navona, piazza del popolo, piazza barberini, and i suppose the via veneto if only to say you walked down it.

i probably missed something completely obvious but anyway

you could also go to san giovanni where the scala sancta are, it was closed when i eventually got there.

hope there's enough here to keep ye going for 5 days, we never went to the beach any time we went to italy so i cant help you there.

    have a good time :)

  7. When you go out if you start drinking and you are in a night club make sure you get a bottle then you can put your thumb over it so it doesn't get spiked because they is people like that there

  8. Every monument in Rome is perfect and demonstrates the history of the place. Don't miss Colosseo, Forum, Fontana di Trevi and all the piazzas, but before that go to a supermarket and buy at least some bottles of water, because out of Colosseo the little bottle of water costs an eye, as Italians say!!! The same goes for the other things, too.

Have a nice trip. Rome is a great place.

  9. Visit the jewish Ghetto's....... really nice windy little streets that go on for ever it's a brilliant thing to just wander round looking in the tiny little shops, thats of course assuming it's all women going lol
