If you don't mind Chinese boards. look up Fury Surfboards, or Isle Surfboards. Why don't you look in a surf shop? You'll find a nice used handmade board under 500.00, and you'll know what your buying. A few years back, I bought a used like new stick from this guy: http://www.usedsurf.com/shop/index.php

But I already knew that was the board I wanted; I'd been looking for it locally for a while.

try garage saleing!! i got 2 surf boards in the past 3 weeks for under 40 dollars each! and they are both in goood shape!
