  1. Annie is such a fun production. I did it my freshman year! :) I'd definitely take the melody, as suggested. Also, try to put as much action into the audition as possible. Unless instructed by your director to do a standstill audition piece. Remember that the Annie production was originally based off of a comic strip, so Lily is ultimately a cartoon character. Don't be afraid to give it your all! She's excessively vain; but she's also an airhead. Hope that helped!

  2. Well for any audition you wouldnt want to sing something from the musical you are auditioning for. It makes the director believe that you are only auditioning for one role and if he/she doesnt like how you fit then they probably wont consider you for other roles as well.

Unless of course it is some kind of requirement to sing a peice for the role youre auditioning for then I would go ahead and start from the chorus of "Easy Street." It starts pretty uptempo and shows a slight vocal range necessary for her role.

But if you dont have to sing something from the actual musical then I would advise you against it. I would choose 16 bars from a different musical. An uptempo song with a 2nd soprano range.

16 bars is usually around one minute and its usually all the director is asking for in an audition.

The song If I Were A Bell from Guys and Dolls has a perfect one minute portion that can show good range and vocal ability.

If youre looking for something more stable and not such a high soprano then I would try songs like The Saga of Jenny from Lady in the Water, Popular from Wicked, or Cabaret from Cabaret.

I once played Lilly St. Regis in a school production of Annie and now my high school is playing that show next year as well so I will also be looking for more audition peices.

Just know that Lilly is a sassy, blonde, bimbo of a type of girl and you have to work it for all its worth.

    Best of Luck. :)
