  1. You've restored the Vista bootloader with Vista boot pro - assuming the xp partition is not corrupt (in which case delete the xp partition and reinstall xp), my guess is Vista can see the XP partition but can't load it. You need to add an entry for XP in the Vista bootloader - you may be able to do this with Vista Boot Pro, I'm not certain - if not download Easy BCD - free here-

    http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/easybcd...

Launch the app and go to Add/Remove Entries.

Under “Add an Entry” and under the Windows tab and select in the Version drop-down list “Windows NT/2k/XP/2k3”.

Change the Drive to E:\  (assuming C:\ is the system partition and D;\ is an optical drive )and the name to “Windows XP”, then click “Add Entry” and “Save”

    see here

Reboot and you should be able to boot into XP from the boot menu. Good luck.

    3. install linux - ubuntu/slax/dsl/fedora/redhat

    4. dual boot vista/linux

    5. enjoy linux/ubuntu
