Im trying to get my videos on my minidv to my computer...?

i bought this really expensive cable called firewire so i hooked it up to my camcoder and the other cable at the end has to outlets either usb and what i assume is firewire but the guy at circutcity said that it does not matter that it should work without having firewire adaptar but my computer does not recognize it what should i do? the cd that came with minidv is only for still picxs not video? i need help

It does matter.... It will work only in FireWire... You gotta buy a firewire card. But you should not buy the expensive one in the first place. No reason for that./ Go on eBay and buy combo Firewire Card + cable for <20$ and return the expensive one to the store for refund (should be able if it is within somewhat 2 weeks or so... even when you opened the package. Just say it does not work with your computer..

the CD has driver + software only for USB connection which is for still pictures only.

Firewire drivers are part of windows so do not need another programs. For capturing of the actual movie you can use Windows Movie Maker or some software like Ulead Video Studio might be included in the firewire card combo. Just look on eBay and choose one with programs included. There are many, I bought it ther 2 yrs ago myself.
