  1. Trim the door to 4mm smaller than the door casing's widest point. If you need to remove 30mm ,take 15mm off either edge. Use a plane to shape the door edges to fit the casing. You might have to reduce the height of the door too, again make it 4mm smaller than the longest measurement between the casing head & the floor, then plane the top edge of the door to suit the casing (door casings almost always slope one way or the other if they've been in a few years). Then place a wedge or chisel under the door to lift it to within 2mm of the casing head. Place your hinges against the old hinge cutouts on the casing leg and mark their position on the door. Open up the hinges and draw the profile of one flap on the door edge exactly where you marked its position. Use a hammer & 25mm or larger chisel to make the cutout for the hinge to sit in. It should be no deeper than the thickness of the hinge flap or the door will "bind" on the casing. Then just s***w the hinges on and swing the door-bish bosh, easy

  2. There is usually enough material on the edges to allow trimming -  I would be inclined to take 15mm off each edge though. If we are talking about a flush door there is usually enough material (if it hasn't been trimmed before) but without seeing it rather impossible to say. If it's panelled you can see what you will be left with - and why you need to trim both edges, to stop the panes going off centre.

  3. You don't want to adjust the door frame because you will have to remove part of one wall and mess up your plaster and decoration and . . . . . . . .  Adjust the door even if it means buying another one!

  4. trim the door with a plain or a jigsaw

  5. if the door is solid. not if its hollow. though its possible

  6. all the other answers are close, but if the door as panels on then you may need to take all the 30mm of the hinge side, because the handles may not be able to be fitted with a reduced locking side. the handles would go into the panel. check it out with the handles and lock/latch to make sure you can still fit the handles if you take 15mm of each side.

    good luck
