I go to a public highschool. I want a dancing excellence program and so do heaps of people i know what one aswell. An excellence program is like you audition and you get to do it as a subject and compete and stuff. My school is very into sport, so far we have a netball, soccer and touch footy excellence program. There are so many dancers and we want one for dancing. Well i talked to the head of sport and he ignored everything i said about an excellence program and he didnt really seem to care about what i said so he made it a wednesday afternoon sport (we get to choose a sport to do for 2 hours) anyway, the school isnt going to hire a dance teacher or anything, they are making all of us do the routines and we are just having a supurviser, so in other words its a waste of time, because we wont learn anything. How do i convince them that heaps of people want an excellence programa nd that it would be worthwhile, we want a good one with a dance teacher and everything.

HELP!

  1. My daughter just started Orchesis at her high school. Her and her girlfriend first had to find a teacher who would be their sponsor. Then they had to write a proposal to the Dean of Students. When it was approved they started to set up times for auditions. They each choreographed a 2 min. dance and taught it over a 2 day period. They then arranged for 3 judges to come in. They have 9 girls in it now. They have done two fund raisers. They plan on meeting before school starts in the fall. They will hold auditions for incoming freshman. They have gotten permission to preform during Homecoming. It took a lot of work from my daughter and her friend to start this club. They did all this since April. There next step is to bring in dance teachers from the area to guest teach. Between the 9 girls they go to 4 different studios and some of the teachers there are willing to come in for a day or two to teach.

Not the same as having a dance program in the school's academics. But it is a start. Any new program to be introduced into the school day has to go through the school districtt. Our distric has nothing for dance. The school district next to us all high schools have dance in their gym program. One HS has a complete dance room (only for dance) and excellent ballet teacher. The dancers there in Orchesis take dance instead of gym class.

  2. If I were you i would take it to your principal and talk to them and tell them the situation... and see if that works or get everyone to sign a petition and bring that to the principal....... and just let the principal that everyone is really interested in doing this and do some research on some local dance teachers and tell the principal and see if that will get them to hire someone and get it started... if not bring what you got the the school board
