but, the d**n thing stalls. (Read on before you start saying im a nub at manual).

The other day I was driving in the rain when I noticed that the right tire of my car lost traction and was tugging the car into the lanes on the right. My first solution to this was to start off really slow.

Yesterday, I was watching this program on television that said the drivers can start out in second when its snowing. Makes sense, less power at the wheels.

It was raining today and i took the car out to see what would happen.

Results:

Starting off in second is just as much work as letting the clutch out very slowly in first. Plus the car kept stalling.

What are your suggestions?

If you have ever started a car in second, did you have this problem?

  1. You're going to fry your clutch! Fix the bald tires or the frozen left brake caliper. Nobody has a car where this is normal. Bad tie rod ends, ball joints and alignment also will cause a pull.

  2. You would have to let the clutch out very slowly and gradually as the car started forward, "slipping" it, but that will wear your clutch out much more rapidly that starting normally, and will give you much more trouble with stalling, because the gear is just too high for the vehicle starting load.  Some trucks and buses are meant to be started this way, and their first gear is reserved for "bulldogging" (heavy loads), but why not just use your 1st and learn to let the clutch out more slowly using the proper gear?

    Best regards,

    Mike

  3. If this is a common problem it sounds like your problem is your tires (your right tire specifically). If you live in an area with snow get some Bridgestone Blizzacks or Michelin X-Ice.

  4. i usually start out in second unless road cond or if carrying a load warrants it to start out in first

clutch and gas key factors for me

  5. when starting off in 2nd you need to give more gas to keep the rpm's up.  Keep trying and you'll get the hang of it.
