  1. The idea is that humans and apes both come from a common ancestor that was neither one nor the other, but a different kind of animal which doesn't exist anymore.  There were a bunch of those prehistoric creatures, and groups of them got separated into different areas.  The different conditions in the different areas favored different traits, so the groups became more and more different with each generation until they were no longer the same species.

The apelike creatures that we evolved from evolved from other creatures that are now extinct. If you trace it all the way back, every species now on earth is believed to have split from a common ancestor that was basically a microbe in the primordial stew billions of years ago.  That is why there are many similarities among different types of animals...for example, humans, apes, dogs, cats, horses, crocodiles, snakes, birds, etc. all have 2 eyes, 1 nose, and 1 mouth.  Much of our DNA is the same -- which is evidence supporting the idea that we came from a common ancestor way, WAY back.

  2. Evolution is not that simple ... you need to read about it to learn about it ...

  3. I believe we evolved and are still evolving. I don't think we came from apes though. Lower forms of life become more sophisticated over time, both physically and mentally.
