  1. Vista has had problems with firewire.  Is the firewire card visible in Device Manager?  If it is, you could try uninstalling it and letting the OS find it again when the PC reboots - do this with the camcorder plugged in and switched on in Play mode.

  2. Try using ROXIO MEDIA SUITE software. I use it all the time with XP. Start the software first and then ON the camera. firewire ofcourse. Make new dvd or plug and burn for real time recording on DVD.

  3. you need "software" to do it.....

most "DVD Burners" come with this kind of software (such as roxio DVD Builder )

also, your firewire card usually come with one too(if you purchased fireware card).

windows movie maker should work but you may need to install driver from your DV Camcorder so computer can reconize it.

  4. Vista has compatibility problems, you need to go to your camera's website and see if there is a vista compatible driver  for your camera.

I'm not familiar with the firewire to USB adapter, but I'm wondering how that would work since you can't download video via a USB port. Try your adapter in another computer and see if that works.

Make sure all your software is installed.

  5. You need a driver for vista!! Contact the manufacturer of your camera. Hopefully they made one if your lucky.......
