  1. I understand it can take up to a year after you clear up the problem before many banks will give you a checking account.

Could you get by with a savings account for now?

If you have a credit union or local bank, you might give them a try.

  2. If you have bad credit, most banks won't let you get a checking account anymore. Times have changed....

  3. Well, check if Wells Fargo has a secured checking account (one where you have to have a certain balance for a certain amount of time)

  4. There are some banks who will waive the chex restrictions.  US Bank is one that I know of.  Check the banks in your area to find out about their policies...

  5. I am also in your same situation and I was able to open an account online with Wachovia recently. Try to open one online somewhere. Hope that helps.

  6. Go into the bank who put in on Chex Systems and have them call to get it removed. Their toll free # 1-800--428-9623

  7. Paying off the debt that you owe will not remove you from chexsystems. Whenever paying for removal make sure you get something in writing. Many banks will tell you that paying it off will remove you when in fact it does not. Chexsystems is a credit reporting agency so you can always dispute and attempt removal but there is no guarantee.

Yes there are banks and credit unions that will open accounts for those reported to chexsystems. Options depend on where you live. Here is a list of free non-chexsystems banks and credit unions
