  1. Personally, I think the .308 is overrated. My .280 Remington will shoot a 165 grain at 2800 fps with only a 32 inch drop at 400 yards. This far eclipses the down range performance of the .308. Even the CREATOR of the .270 recommends this round over the case that HE HIMSELF designed.

    I recommend these models:

-New England Firearms Handi Rifle ($210-280 used)

-Remington 870 express magnum ($190-450 used

-Any civilian ak 47 variant with a milled (not stamped) receiver. These can get more pricey so check your pawn shops and online auctions closely. My SLR 95 was $650 used. I place the malfunction rate at .1%, and this is only due to "bump-firing." I hope this has been helpful and Happy Shooting.

  2. Excellent answer vangion all for $1200 or one for $1200. I gave you a thumbs up.

How about getting one or two higher quality firearms and saving for the third down the road.

    The combinations are mind boggling...

  3. The Remington 870 Super Mag Shotgun fires 2 3/4 inch to 3 1/2 inch cartridges.... An excellent coice usualy on sale for around $370...

An SKS rifle at Samco Global Sales.... AVOID THE CHEAP ONE - Get the new condition rifle... About $270...

Heres a decent bolt action rifle in .308. The bipod and scope are included.... Its a Mossberg 100-ATR Night Train.... Less than $500.....

  4. If it were me doing the buying with those goals, here is what I'd buy.

    Mossberg M-835 pump shotgun

Browning BLR, in .308 Win, it gives bolt-action accuracy with the speed of a lever-action.  The BLR's well earned reputation for accuracy would not be a deterent either.

    A Russian or Yugoslavian SKS.

I'd spend most of the rest of the money on a  Leupold Vari-X III 4-12X50mm scope.

    Doc

  5. You could get all of those for $1200 or one of those for $1200

  6. i just sold a bolt action deer rifle, a muzzle loader and a pistol in 44 mag all used for deer hunting and bought a tc encore with a 7mm mag barrel a muzzle loader barrel and a pistol barrel in 44 mag. with tons of other cal available in rifle and pistol in ss and blued with walnut or synthetic I  think this will be both fun and practical.   good shootin

  7. SKS around 250 to 350

    good 12ga 400

good 308 bolt without scope 600

    I would go with the 12ga and a 308

use whats left to buy ammo for them and save up for an AK or SKS.

    Or...

    Remington 799 bolt action in 7.62x39 - about $600

    and

Any good 12ga for about 400
