I have a Dell Dimension 8400 and I am giving it a complete make over. Its going to have all new parts except I was wondering if I could just format my Hard Drive instead of buying a new one? I read somewhere when you put like a Dell HDD with a new OS and motherboard it has conflicts. Is that ture. Because im also upgrading to Vista for Direct X 10. What else should I know about upgrading my Computer?

  1. You should have no problems with the hard drive.  With vista you will need lots of memory around 3 to 4 gig. a format will work just fine.  Last think double check your video card is compatible with vista

  2. Upgrading your computer is a big step. Be alarm that some software isn't compatible with Vista. Antion'e Information Technology has enable a way to role back to Home edition and Professional if a user doesn't like Vista so that's not the issue here.

Be sure the motherboard is strong enough for the equipment you purchasing. That is really the important factor. If the motherboard is then I see no problem with upgrading your OS and HD.

In cast of error during the format for security purposes, I would try and convince you to make a back up CD or DVD of your computer. That's if you wanted to save some of the music and pictures you have on your current hardware.
