  1. Acrylic jewelry sucks, it emits toxins into your body and can make you sick while irritating a piercing. It can cause the piercing to get red, itchy, sore and scabby - even on a fully healed piercing. I suggest that you do your body a favor and throw the acrylic c**p away, and buy Stainless Steel or Titanium tapers. Or better yet - have a piercer stretch the piercings for you.

Also tapers aren't meant for long-term use. They get bumped around and are an overall inconvenience for your ears. To answer your question yes, they could cause your ear to tear because they go through a lot more abuse than a ring or plug. Tapers are meant to wear long enough to get from size A to size B (the next size up) and then to follow the jewelry in after your at size B. You then keep the jewelry in for about two months before you stretch again. The longer you go between stretching, the better.

Be sure to be lubing it up before you put it in your ear (I use Satin Soap or Provon), and clean it with the sea salt soaks as it sounds like you know already.

  2. Ummmm....what?

  3. firstttt congrats on starting tapers!

when i started gaging my ears, i had no idea what i was doing-bought these wanna be cheap talons from hot topic, and put 3-5 days in between each size until 6. smart, huh?

well that hurt. dont do it. its "advised" to wait 6 weeks in between each size, but i dont think you need to wait THAT long. since its stil a size 12, it shouldnt get stuck and tear. its good that youre taking care of it though. when it gets comfortable (able to turn it and stuff and feels normal) then to ease the upping of the sizze, you can get plumber;s tape (that white teflon stuff) and wrap a few rounds around your tapers, and put them back in. that way, the holes stretch a little more before you up the size.

    cheers
