  1. Your parents are wrong.

And vitamins typically do not have protein.  And the "protein pills" you can get have minimal amounts of protein.  You could get more from String Cheese.

Use a food diary and track what you are eating for a week.  http://kraftfoods.com/kf/HealthyLiving/M...  will show you how much of each nutrient you are getting.

Unless you are eating nothing but cheese pizza and cocoa puffs, you are probably jsut fine.

  2. what you need is an education on food combining for proper nutrition.  simple Beans & grains combined in the same meal make a complete protien.  since you did not put your hieght it is hard to tell if you are under weight @ 98.  when i was in 8th grade i was 5'9" and weighed 110 - everyone thought when i became a veggie ( because of field trip to slaughter house) that i would shrivel up and blow away.  well i loved & still love BURRITOS - beans rice cheese tomatoes sprouts salsa, mmmmmmmmm.   anyway that is one example.  check out "whole foods" site for ideas, have you tried Tofu - how about Boca Burgers.  if you educate yourself and offer to help in kitchen and act mature about it - they won't think you need to be forced to do anything - they will see you are responsible about your choice.  YOU CAN DO THIS!  a veggie Mom in your corner :)~

  3. You can't get protein from pills. You are still a growing young woman and you are taking big risks with your health life-long if you shortchange your body while it's growing.

Your biggest risks are protein deficiency, anemia, and calcium deficiency. Your safest bet is to delay becoming a vegetarian until your growth is finished and you can do well on a lower quality diet.

  4. Vitamin pills don't give you protein, they give you vitamins and minerals.  Protein is very bulky and you can't fit a significant amount of it in a little pill.

You can get protein powder and mix it into smoothies, though.

Do you eat eggs and dairy products?  Both are a good source of protein.  Also nuts, beans, soy-based veggie burgers.

  5. Try nuts, flax seeds, peanut butter, (you may/not eat eggs), beans, lentils, milk, protein shakes/capsules (w/ a docs approval). Hopefully those things will help. i will add more if i can think of something

  6. No you don't need vitamins, you need to do research on foods that you do eat.  Seeds and nuts contain protein and better protein than meat products, because your body actually can digest these proteins, unlike meat.  You're young so this is what you should do.  Make a list of all the vitamins necessary for good health.  Then find the foods that contain those vitamins.  Once you do that you will know what to eat and your parents wont be telling you what to eat.

  7. The average person only needs about 50 grams of protein per day. Protein is in everything, just look at the side of boxes. In todays world it is very hard to be protein deficient if you are eating a wide variety.

You and your parents seem misinformed about proper vegetarian nutrition, and would probably benefit from a little more research. There are some great books that can help you with being vegetarian and staying healthy.

    High protein foods include:

soy milk, tofu, nuts(Almonds, Cashews, Filberts, Hemp Seeds, Peanuts, Pumpkin seeds, Sesame seeds, Sunflower seeds, Walnuts (black)), seeds, legumes(Garbanzo beans, Kidney beans, Lentils, Lima beans, Navy beans, Soybeans, Split peas), grains(Barley, Brown rice, Buckwheat, Millet, Oatmeal, Rye, Wheat germ, Wheat, hard red, Wild rice), vegetables(Artichokes, Beets, Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Cucumbers, Eggplant, Green peas, Green pepper, Kale, Lettuce, Mushrooms, Mustard green, Onions, Potatoes, Spinach, Tomatoes, Turnip greens, Watercress, Yams, Zucchini), fruits(Apple, Banana, Cantaloupe, Grape, Grapefruit, Honeydew melon, Orange, Papaya, Peach, Pear, Pineapple, Strawberry).

A cup of oatmeal, and a glass of soymilk/milk will give you 13 grams, and that just breakfast.

Trust me protein deficiencies are rare in the U.S and are mostly found in third world countries that suffer from famine. I cannot remember the last time I ever heard of someone suffering from a protein deficiency.

  8. use protien drinks. they may taste kind of funky but one or two drinks a day is worth it. if your really commited into being a vegetarian take those drinks because they give you protien.

  9. This site has TONS of foods that are high in protein :)

    http://www.highproteinfoods.net/

This site will show you a chart of how much protein you need a day or how much protein the food has

  10. eat eggs and tofu...they are rich in protein

  11. they're
