“I’m very humbled, It’s a blessing,” says AL Cy Young winner David Price
Tampa Bay Rays' starting pitcher David Price got what he deserved for his consistent performance in this recent Major League Baseball season.
Price has been declared American League Cy Young award winner while R.A. Dickey won the National League Cy Young honour.
After winning the award, David Price made some modest comments in the media and celebrated his win with slight humility.
“I’m very humbled, It’s a blessing,” said Price after winning the American League award for pitching excellence.
Price added, “That’s the motto we go by, We have a lot of big arms in this organization that are just waiting for a chance to come up here and prove that they belong here. If anybody complains, we just look at them and be like, ‘Look, if you don’t like it, just pitch better.”
Later Rays’ pitcher James Shields said, “I’m so happy for him, I had a feeling it was going to come, but it’s nice to hear the verdict finally came out and he won. I think it’s well-deserved, and I’m very proud of him.”
Price won this award with his extraordinary pitching skills which made him one of the very best players in the league during the 2012 Major League Baseball season.
He finished with 2.56 ERA along with 20-5 win-loss, 205 strike-outs and 1.10 WHIP. Not only this season but Price has been playing in the big league for almost four years and showing his extraordinary skills.
His career ERA of 3.16 along with 61-31 win-loss, 725 strike-outs and 1.17 WHIP makes him one of the talented pitchers in the league.
Since joining the league in 2008, Price is playing in the Tampa Bay Rays. During his short span in the league, Price has been nominated three times as a Major League All-Star.
This year, he has also won American League Wins Leader award and Major League Earned Run Average Champion.
Experts believe that Price proved his game and now will come with more focus in the coming seasons. Meanwhile, this is also a great achievement for the Tampa Bay Rays’ organisation that they gave enough confidence to Price to attain this prestigious award.
