  1. I was extremely afraid of all social situations when I started college.  I really wanted to change this about myself, so I looked-into joining a fraternity.  I ended-up being scared to do it for several years.  I finally went through with it, and I think it was one of the best decisions in my entire life!  I wish I hadn't waited so long to join.

I still have some anxiety in some social situations, but it's not even close to as bad as it used to be.

As to some of the suggestions that you just join a club instead... that's also an option (I joined clubs in college, too), but your association with a fraternity continues after college.  I've been able to get jobs through my fraternity, find housing for grad school internships, and all kinds of other benefits.  I still have problems calling people I don't know on the phone (I can get really nervous), but calling people who were in the same fraternity as me makes it a lot easier for me.

You may want to try joining some clubs, and then see what fraternities the people you 'click'-with are in (if any).  ...that's pretty much what I did.

  2. A fraternity could be a great way to meet new people and for the social aspect of it all. It will definitely bring you out of your shell a little bit. Of course there are other ways to meet people if that's what you want. Join a club on campus for something you care about.

  3. why not just join a club?

fraternitys are expensive and kinda s****., so i'd stick to a cool club u like.

  4. No, all you need is to learn how to communicate on a normal conversation level without being dependent on text message and internet.  Words on paper cannot acurately convey the signals you want to send.  After the conversation then you can understand that you have a lot to offer for friendship
