  1. be careful as London  has more street crime than New York, the mayor has just been thrown out after 8 years  as it is now so violent.  Visit quickly and leave for somewhere safer

  2. We don't have shopping "districts".

Compared to America, the UK is quite small and because most of London was built hundreds of years ago they didn't really have malls in mind lol!

In central London most of the tourists head to Oxford Street (over a mile of shops) but there is traffic and a lot of people on this street so expect it to be busy.  On this street you have Selfridges (one of the best department stores) as well as Debenhams (www.debenhams.com), Marks and Spencer (www.marksandspencer.com), John Lewis (www.johnlewis.com), House of Fraser, Top Shop, HMV etc.

If you want more high end luxury shopping then Old Bond Street or Harrods / Harvey Nicholls at Knightsbridge is for you where they have the rooms of luxury to take your breath away.

If you want a huge mall then you'll need to get someone to drive you to Bluewater or Lakeside in Kent.   These are giant malls with huge free parking and similar to the malls in America.  There are other large shopping areas near to Central London but not as big as the Kent ones - Brent Cross in North London and The Glades in Bromley and the Centrale / Whitgift centre in Croydon.

    Happy shopping!

  3. Ok first off please do not listen to the people talking about crime this like any city depends where about you go in that city and this is not why the mayor got "kicked" out out at all

    Anyways

Oxford street has most of the best shops there biggest there. Not the names will maybe mean much cos your from US but theres Topshop with 5ish floors, 2 H&Ms, Selfridges which is a huge department store with designers brands as well as high street ones, Urban Outfitters etc etc

Regent street also runs half way across Oxford Street good shops there and Bond Street is a the top of Oxford Street.

I would also go to Covent Garden there's bigger shops such as Fred Perry etc and then theres small markets to get unusual things.

Harrods is in Knightbridge right near the underground stop theres also a Harvey Nicoles there kinda like Harrods.

If your looking for something unsual go to Camden full of small little shops altho be carefull before you go cos it may not be what your into at all!!

Id get a London tourist guide they usually contain a underground map and talk about all the main streets and buses and underground routes to get there

    Have Fun

  4. You are spoilt for choice, depends what type of shopping, for clothes, Oxford Street, Bond Street, Regent Street,  central London.

scot bull is talking just that, bull, its a good place, come and see for yourself. We don;t hate Americans and i am sick and tired of people saying we do.

  5. Oxford Street is where to start, then visit Harrods, if you want to go out of town Bluewater is the biggest shopping mall.

  6. My advice, get out of London as soon as you can and keep your mouth closed, the US ain't exactly our favourite people at the moment and the thugs here will beat our own up for looking at them wrong.

As for shopping, I've lived in London for 24 years, and I do all my shopping on the internet, shows how rubbish London really is.

  7. oxford street, Brent cross but that is a shopping centre

  8. . camden lock in camden

    . sloane street in knightsbridge

. kensington high street a LITTLE bit quieter than oxford street but its still quite central/

    . brompton road in knightsbridge/kensington

    . kings road in chelsea

    . high holborn

  9. Definatley go to Camden market, Brighton also good for shopping but its an hour South of London by train on the south coast. Portobello rd is also worth seeing!

  10. Definitely Oxford Street to start but once you've done that try some of the makets eg, Berwick Street, Petticoat Lane etc.  They're fun to visit even if you don't actually buy anything.

  11. There is NO place like London for shopping. I have been to most major Cities in the World including New York and London beats them all. Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges, these are the high end shops and are great just to visit -Harrods has the best food hall (including a Champagne &Oyster bar) and even has a traditional style English pub in the basement!

Marks and Spencers, John Lewis, I could go on and on...the list is endless. The atmosphere is great over the West End, check out Covent Garden and the Street performers, oh I miss it all as I now live in Australia!

Have fun and shop til you drop!
