  1. Your petition to the US has numerical limits. This means, that the US embassy in your country is given a certain number of visa quotas per year. Your petition number is in line IN YOUR country. This cannot be moved to another country with less people in line for the visa to become available like Canada.

    The DHS has promised to erase the backlog in the Family Class within 8 years. So lets just hope everything moves more quickly now. When your visa priority date becomes due, I suggest you keep an open ended ticket back to your country for your interview. When you get the visa, you can come back to Canada or go directly to the US.**
