I have a 6 month old kitten, and she has the most beautiful nature of any cat i have ever come across. Lately she has been acting a tad strange, and i would like to know why.

I have rescently relocated to a new house, with both of my kittens, and they seem to like it here more than my old house. As soon as i open the back door, my eldest kitten runs outside and rolls around in the sand making sure that she gets as dirty as she possibly can. This is rather odd to me as i have always seen felines as very hygenic and clean animals. She doesnt seem to mind the sand or mud on her at all!

Infact, she seems to love it. And she never used to do this at all when we were on our old property...

Another interesting point of behavior is that she also rolls around on the floor inside the house, and meows in a rather deep tone. She looks very affectionate, and keeps her bum in the air. Is this a sign of her bieng on heat because she is 6 months old? The other kitten witch is the same age, has shown none of this behavior besides for rolling in the sand a little bit. One last question... is it normal for a cat to use the toilet instead of the sandbox? LOL she does this... the other one doesnt.

I dont know that much about the feline behavior and signs. Any advice or opinions will be greatly welcomed. Will rate best answer. Please dont forget to provide your source!!! Thank you =]

  1. The first cat is in heat. Keep her inside or you will have kittens. You can have her fixed when she is in heat, but I would only do it if she is having laser surgery because they have extra blood loss when in heat.

As far as using the toilet at 6 months, I have never heard of a cat doing that unless trained. Let her keep using it. It will save you money on litter. Maybe the other one could pick it up from example.

  2. Haha,

this sounds like my two cats, i too have a 6 month kitten and ive just moved to my house, and she acts exactly the same way, she will not be coming onto heat its normally because they are kittens they are mischevious and like to have fun, thats what the vet said about my kitten anyway =] x

  3. Either she's a cat that likes getting dirty/wet or she maybe is trying to adapt to a totally new environment/surrounding & if rolling in dirt & on the floor is keeping her cool, then you shloud keep the air conditioner on. You should try making a environment/surrounding inside the house that is similar to your old house therefore she won't act weird because she's not used to the new one. LOL, one more thing...don't let cats run out.

I hope I helped! G'luck to you & your cat!

  4. It all sounds to me like she's going into heat, or is already in heat. I'm not too sure about getting dirty, or using the toilet though, sorry

  5. she going into heat. The behavior is she's spreading her scent around to attract males. If you don't get her fixed eventually the kind whaling noise starts... that's soooooooo annoying. As for using the toilet cats are smart saw you using it and did it no muss no fuss cats aren't stupid. lol

  6. Maybe she is acting up because of the othre cat.

  7. Sounds to me that if she is not spayed she may be in heat.  I say this because of the different meow and her bum in the air.  That is what my cat did when she went into heat right before her appointment to get spayed.

  8. it could be that shes going through heat, but i mean afterall you did relocate to a new house and what cats/kittens do is make sure that they mark their territory, your new house being a different surrounding also unmarked would sorta explain the acting weird and rubbing against everything and rolling outside, cats have oil glands on the back of their necks so when they rub off on something it lets off a scent to mark territory. dont worry bout it lol ive had 2 kittens and they did the same for a while when i first got them. :] hope that helped.

  9. maybe she developt a new habit
