Im writing a story, and i know my plot already, but can i have a little help? i need some ideas...?

Question

to sum it up, my story is about a girl who leads a fairly happy life, and then something dramatic happens, and she becomes depressed, secretive, and quiet.

the problem is that i can't decide on what happens to make her like that.

i have two ideas:

1. she loves her family to death, but her parents get a nasty divorce.

2. her parents get a nasty divorce, and she has to move away with her dad....and away from all her friends and everything she's familiar with. (she was really close to her mom)

does anyone have any other ideas? i need this to be a really good story.

i was also thinking that maybe her mom dies, so if you dont have any ideas, can you just help me possibly add to that.

and please, no sarcasm. i want this to be serious. i usually write happier stories, but i wanted a change with this.

Grandma moves in and has Alzheimer's and she has trouble coping with this.

Her parents take on a foster care kid and this makes her life terrible.

She starts losing her sight and goes blind.

Her aunt and uncle die in a car accident and her mom gets depressed and commits suicide.

Her dad has an affair with her best friend's mom.

No shortage of terrible things to happen to somebody's life!

make the girl a young woman and married...from old money. she met her husband in europe and he was so dashing. everything a woman would want in a husband, until they were married. her husband quickly begins cheating on her and squandering her money. not to mention the regular beatings just because... she meets a friend from college..someone she can confide in. tells her friend of her miserable life. tells her friend how most days, she sits on her bed holding a loaded revolver and her friend introduces her to the world of drugs, s*x and parties.

she was always...still is beautiful

no one would ever believe she would do these things

what else?

I think instead of a divorce, the father dies and this is very unfortunate

the family is upset and has to move to a smaller house in a differrent area, and this makes it harder for the daughter because she has to leave her friends while she's still coping with her father's death and the fact that her mother is heartbroken

she finds a journal written by the father when he was younger and she discovers he was married before and has a daughter that he hasn't seen in many years

that's all I have for now
