Imam Adi Kusuma defeats Cecep M Alawy in Men’s Singles round of 16 at Jakarta Open 2012
Indonesia’s Imam Adi Kusuma proved his elite craft when he surged into Men’s Singles quarter-final after beating his country-mate Cecep M Alawy in round-of-16 encounter at Djarum Sirnas Flypower Jakarta Open 2012 on Friday, May 18, in Jakarta.
The in-form Kusuma, who is seventh seed in the tournament, played with remarkable precision and managed to overpower Alawy who was seeded at number 11 in Men’s Singles draw.
The higher ranked Kusuma employed his elevated skills and managed to win the thrilling battle in three games while putting up good show for 66 minutes.
On the other hand, the lower ranked Alawy tried his level best to put up good show and also delivered a terrific performance but failed to maintain his impressive run in ending phase of third game and lost the match with a close margin.
In the first game, Kusuma started his campaign in a safe and composed manner as he did not execute risky shots and kept a firm control over the pace of rallies.
In the meanwhile, Alawy remained slightly behind his higher ranked rival by playing competitive badminton.
Until the mid-game break, Kusuma was in commanding position as he took a reasonable lead on the score board.
After the break, the higher ranked Kusuma remained on track while remaining positive in the court and won the set with a sensational 21-16 score on the board.
In the following set, Alawy played much better game as he did not commit mistakes this time and took a reasonable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the 60-second break, Kusuma changed his playing strategy but failed to live up to expectations and lost the set with a six-point deficit of 15-21.
In the final set, both men showed their aggressive skills while playing with precision and remained neck-to-neck until the break.
After the interval, Kusuma was the first to set up a reasonable lead and maintained it to secure the set with a decent score of 21-17.
The higher ranked Kusuma won this pre-quarter-final contest in rubber games by a thrilling 21-16, 15-21 and 21-17 score on the board.
