Iman Shumpert undergoing an intensive rehab process; eyeing a January return – NBA News

Iman Shumpert is a very important player for the New York Knicks.
Although the Knicks now have a roster that is filled with depth in the back court after acquiring some key role players in the summer, they still need a person who can defend the perimeter on a nightly basis and Shumpert is the
guy who does it for them.
Shumpert received a lot on attention last season for his defensive play, and is undoubtedly one great defender in a Knicks line-up which likes to attack more than defend, although Tyson Chandler was named the defensive player of
the year last season.
But the problem with Shumpert is that he suffered an ACL injury in the Knicks first postseason game last season, and is scheduled to be out for at least 8 months. Shumpert was earlier eyeing a January return, but he is still unsure
exactly when he will be able to return to the court as he undergoes rehab.
“I have a steady rehab and we mix it up. There’s a little bit more I can do every day, but it’s definitely not the same thing being on the court sweating. I can’t wait until I get back. It’s getting better . . . Everything’s been
good so far. I haven’t had any bad days. I’m happy about that. I’ll be going to a MRI soon and see if we can pick up the intensity of my rehab,” said Shumpert while talking to Newsday.
Like Derrick Rose who is also currently recovering from an ACL injury, Shumpert cannot wait to get back on the court. However, ACL is a serious injury and Shumpert needs to fully recover before he returns to the court. Any hasty
decision of rushing back to the court could come back to haunt him, as a re-injury might make his muscle weaker and threaten his career in the NBA.
Shumpert is a great young talent who has been incredible for the Knicks this past season. He needs to fully recover from his injury and then come back to the court 100%, so he can continue from where he left off last season.
