Question:

Imitating silver in tattoos?

I know there are no safe metallic colored inks out there yet, but I was wondering how close to silver a tattoo artist could imitate. Are there gray inks? Can a good artist use art effects (like light shines in the design) to make it look silver?

  1. I would say yes, but to be extremely cautious in choosing your artist.  Find someone who has done silver imitating before.  See if they have any photos to show.  Perhaps he / she could draw you something on paper first, and you be the judge to see if it looks like silver.  And as far as the grey color goes, I wouldn't worry about that.  Silver things usually just reflect the colors of things around them. Blue sky, red car, etc.  It's not just grey.  And yes, the key to making it appear to be metalic is using the right colors (brightness and shine - probably lots of whites or yellows) Good luck!  I hope it turns out okay!

  2. Yes to both of your questions. There is grey ink, and they can use white/black on it to make it look shiny.
