Question:

Immediate relative of a US citizen-Processing times.?

I am British but I am in process of becoming a US citizen .I will be bringing my parents over on a immediate relative category once my naturalisation is complete. I am familiar with the paperwork involved as I went through it myself but my husband who is a US citizen generated my sponsorship when he lived in the UK and so we did not deal with the local USCIS and I had my greencard in under 5 months. I will be generating this sponsorship from the US-Texas to be precise which is busy! I can only find processing times for family based preferences and that I know is because my parents do not have to wait for a number and so is not included. I am aware that there are factors affecting timelines that are individual but surely there must be some sort of rough timeline estimate for those who don't need to wait for a number but still want to know how long .Anyone have an idea? My parents are domiciled in both UK and Cyprus, not sure which consulate would be quicker but they have a choice.

  1. Going by the currently reported timeline for USCs filing for visa numbers for the spouse, it shouldn't take more than 9 months to get an immediate relative from the UK over.

  2. I asked an immigration attorney the very same question once. He said they were able to get it done for one client in about a year and a half - and he said it as though it were a great achievement! Another girl online said the same about her step-mother (Dominican with a husband from the US sponsoring her) - that it took about a year and a half.

I have, however, heard of people getting processed in as little as 8 months. With the way things are going now, though, I'd be looking at the longer end of the spectrum regarding wait times.
