Do you know any interesting, sad and/or incredible stories of people who immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico, legally or illegally? Or a website with such stories?

Thanks!

  1. Here is a typical one:

Mom and Dad bring junior across the Mexican border with no thought to the little guy's future. Dad obtains a fake drivers license and SSN  in the name of a young citizen just starting out.

10 years go by and one day dad gets deported so mom goes to work for cash under the table. She puts junior in public school and obtains money from the Catholic church.

Junior does well in school and graduates from High School.

Upon graduation he learns that without a green card he is basically screwed. No one tells him he may be able to get documents before his 18th birthday. More years go by and then mom gets deported.

Neither parent did anything all the years they were in America to rectify the situation for Junior.

Finally he goes back to Mexico.

If you know any illegal parents..urge them to do the right thing by their children. Don't cross the border without proper documents.

Tell me what you think of it.

  3. IM ILLEGAL AND MY STORY IS LIKE A MOVIE...NO LIE

  4. Well, I'm not Mexican, but this is my story, as I posted as my answer to a question about the DREAM act:

    --------------

    Here's my story:

I arrived in the US with my parents when I was 2 years old. I grew up there, and was there until I was 14.

When I was in middle school, I was in the AP program in one of the best magnet schools in the state. I was always at the top of my class, and I participated in a lot of math and science competitions at the state level. I got into one of the best high schools in the state, if not the best.

But then in my freshman year, when I was 14, we had to move back because of visa problems. I had to transfer to a terrible high school, and later on, my parents didn't fund me when I was in college, so I had to drop out for financial reasons.

So I'm stuck here, cut off from what I could have been, without a degree. Among my middle school classmates that I was able to contact, one of them went to Stanford, one of them went to Harvard, one of them went to UPenn, another is in medical school, one is an electrical engineer, and another is studying to be a lawyer. I was the top student, smarter than all of them.

I know I can do great things, but I'm stuck in the third world.

Every once in a while, I lurk around here on the immigration area of Yahoo Answers, trying to see if there's a way to get to somewhere where I can try to make something of my life. It's very hard, without any money and without a university degree.

So yeah, I think the DREAM act would be great if it would help people like me. You have to realize that it has been the biggest dream of my life to get back to the US, and if I do get there, I would be better for the US and its economy than 99% of other people.

I'm not a freeloader; I'm an honest person and I'd be willing to work harder than everybody else, or do anything necessary! Why do people think that every immigrant just wants to sit and live off of welfare?

Email me if they ever pass this act!

  5. why do you what to hear some feel-good stories about people running across americas boards braking the law?

  6. There is a book called, "The Growing Season" that was released last fall in my area.  I don't know the author, but it is about a farm in Hartville, OH, close to where I live and talks about immigrants who migrate every year to work there.  I have heard many stories about how immigrants from Mexico migrated here (illegally) through deserts with there families, almost dying...some of them did die...just to make a life here....so they can live.  Those stories are much more in depth, but you get the point.
