Alberta's population reached an estimated 3,474,000 as of July 1, 2007 with an influx of immigrants from other provinces accounting for half of the increase.

The growth represents more than triple the national growth rate and is the largest increase since 1981-1982.

  1. Canada's provinces are basically all seperate countries - they have more self governing power within their own respective provinces than any individual state does in the US.

  2. You have a good point, In our Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms it states that Canadians have the right to freedom of movement. But yet if you go to a new province you have to wait 3 months to become a resident. Also each province does to some extent feel annoyed when an influx of people move there due to Jobs. Kind of sad but in a country so big these things happen and its human nature to become territorial. Take it easy. Cheers!

  3. It is worthwhile to know the growth or shrinkage in different regions of Canada.  It helps to know things like if your area needs to open new hospitals and  schools, and the like.  OR that you now have too many hospitals and schools.  These statistics also help to get at the root of the change.  Like regional disparities and the economy can be booming in one area while high unemployment and recessions in other areas.

The fact that Canadians easily move from one region to another in these statistics means we are not foreign to each other.

However, you are correct.  That article is poorly worded.  The writer should have used the word migrants not immigrants.  Feel free to complain to CTV about their lousy editing.

  4. We are not foreign to each other and we like the fact that we can so easily move from province to province.  What a great country we have!

  5. yeah yeah Canadians are foreign in their own country ... go learn something else ....wtf..........

  6. STOP ASKING THE SAME QUESTION WITH DIFFERENT WORDING OVER AND OVER AGAIN!! so annoying. your question has been answered many times.

  7. Very poor choice of words and the reporter should be reprimanded.  Then again...if you look at how many spelling mistakes are in today's news, then it isn't surprising that a word is used incorrectly.  (at least it was spelled correctly!)

When I took journalism,  if we had a word used incorrectly or more than two spelling mistakes it was an automatic "F" on the article.
