Immigrants to Chicago - how'd they get there?

I have Irish ancestors who came to Chicago in the 1850-60s, and a Polish ancestor who arrived there in 1913. What port do you think they would've arrived at, and what route would they have taken to Chicago?

  1. ******It would all depend.  My father-in-law came from the Netherlands in the early 1900's and entered via Ellis Island.  He took a train from Ellis Island to Iowa where he settled.  It would seem conceivable that your ancestors to Chicago would have taken the same method of transportation.  I'm not sure about the Irish, however.

Hope this helps you on one of them!
