Immigrating to Canada from the US ?

Does anyone know if a father-in-law can sponser his son-in-law to come to Canada? I am asking this because I would not qualify financially to sponser my soon to be husband to come to canada from the US. (I only do not qualify because I just had a baby and am not working at this time -- however I do hold both a B.A and a M.A )?

Also my soon to be husband has over 30,000 saved up, would this make a difference?? Any advise would be appreciated in how we can get him Canadian residency, as we don't meet with an immigration lawyer for another month.
