hi there I’m 18 soon to be 19 British born and bred and I’m looking into immigrating to Aus but the only thing holding me back is 2 things I have a UK level 3 recognised diploma in Horticulture this leads straight on to uni but I feel as uni is not for me as I just spent past 2 years in a classroom doing my another level 3 diploma in music production ( which I regret now as it any worth jack for anything ) and I prefer working out doors.

Anyways I’m rambling on will not having a uni qualification cripple my chances of being accepted under the skilled worker visa.

There is many roles I could fill on the SOL occupations list ie Botanist, Forrester, Grounds keeper, General Gardener and a few others.

Second thing is as I have just finished my course I have yet to gain my 2 years of work experience but as I am coming to Aus later this year under the working holiday visa I should be able to get my 2 years of work exp from that and hopefully find an employer.

  1. i doubt very much you will get work experience in your field in Australia as on a working holiday visa as you can only work for any one employer for no more than 6 months on that visa ,and i don't think anyone would employ you take the time to train you only to have you leave in 6 months and a working holiday visa is for 12 months so how do you figure you will get 2 years experience out of that?you must be totally qualified for a position you wish to migrate for

its not as simple as trying to find an employer when your here(which your not supposed to do on a holiday visa) unless they are willing to sponsor you you will have to go through the long process like everyone else

it is not easy to get the skilled worker visa, have you tried out the sample points test to see if you get enough points to qualify? this site may give you some insight to the process

  2. You should go to the http://expo-australia.com - they answer all your questions and immigration is also there to help with forms etc... you just missed the one last month but there is another coming up in October.

Why not try to go through companys like http://www.bunac.org/uk/workaustralia/  - they will have more options and contacts !

    See http://www.immigration.gov.au/ for more options.

    Good Luck

  3. I wouldn't count on your Working Holiday visa being for 2 years. WH visas are for 12 months and I've never heard of any exceptions. Once you have completed at least 3 months of seasonal work for a primary producer in a regional area, you will be able to apply for a second WH visa, but you need to have done the 3 months before you can apply. On the second visa, you will be able to do another 6 months with one of your previous employers if you wish.

You won't necessarily need a uni qualification to be accepted as a skilled immigrant. Go this page on the government immigration website http://www.immi.gov.au/asri/background.h... and read the sections relating to Skills Assessment  and Licensing or Registration.

Your best bet will be to apply under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) which is for employers in regional Australia to fill skilled positions they are unable to fill from the local labour market. The 'normal' Skilled Migration program caters for highly skilled people and your lack of good experience and higher qualifications will be a disadvantage there. It's easier if you're applying for a job out in the sticks - they have far more difficulty in finding workers and are therefore more flexible.

Get onto the Skills Matching Database to see if anything comes up in there and/or choose your seasonal employers carefully to enhance your chances of finding one who will be willing to sponsor you.

If all else fails, come to uni here and get an Australian qualification.

    Good luck!
