Hello, I have a VERY important question.

If I get married to an American citizen, I get a Temporary Green-Card and after 3 years I get an American citizenship?

I really have to know, best answer to the best answer.

  1. You people will do anything to get citizenship. Guess you better get out there and convince somebody to marry you before your time runs out. You could run an ad:

    $5000 to the first sucker.

Like I'm really gonna try and help an illegal alien stay.

  2. First you will get 2 year Conditional Green Card.

90 days prior to the expiration of the card and if you still married to US Citizen, you file I-751 Remove the Conditions of Resident and get 10 year Permanent Resident Card.

90 days prior to your 3rd anniversary of your first green card approval date and if you are still married to the same USC, you file N-400 Naturalization for US Citizenship.

You just don't get any immigration status automatically. You need to file forms with filing fees and required supporting documents, pass the reviews at the interview, then you will be granted.

This is the link to all forms and fees.

  3. Hi!

I'm a Brazilian and I'm married with an American citizen. You are right! At first you have to apply for  an K1 visa, come to the USA and have your marriage HERE, then you have to apply for the "temporary Green-Card" (it'll expire in 2 years); several months before the expiration date of the "temporary Green-Card"  you have to apply for the "definitive" Green Card and then, after 3 years living here you can apply for the citizenship. Only 3 years because you'll be married with a American citizen, 5 years for other cases.

  4. Sounds like you want to commit a crime?

Fraud and try to pull a scam.

Yes, you can get citizenship for both parties, prison citizenship.

Seen it happen, was way to cool!

Then after prison, you get to go home.

Not the answer you are looking for?

But, we are tired of marriage scams.

Certain countries also raise a red flag.

  5. If you get married to an American you are ELIGIBLE to immigrate to the United States on a spouse visa PROVIDED you meet the eligibility criteria.  .

Simply getting married does not change your status in any way.  Your spouse will petition for you and an investigation will begin.  You'll take a physical exam.  Your police record will be checked.  You'll have a personal meeting with a US consular officer.  If you are found eligible you will get an immigrant visa.

Your first green card will be valid for 2 years.  If you are still married at the end of this period, 90 days before that green card expires, you will apply to remove the conditional status.  You will be expected to provide evidence that you are married and living as a married couple.

After 3 years of being a permanent resident you will be able to file an application for naturalization.  Again, it's not automatic.  An investigation will be done.  Your police record will be checked.  Your history of travel in and out of the United States will be examined.  You'll take a test and you'll be personally interviewed.  Assuming you pass everything you'll become a citizen after being sworn by a federal judge.
