Question:

Immigration To Canada? Few Questions.

Hi! Okay, my mom & I are thinking of moving to Vancouver. The thing is we're poor, she doesn't have a green card, and she can't speak english. I can speak both English & French currently & I'm always her translator. She understands a lot of English & can speak the basics.

I just have a few questions:

1. How's the people variety in Vancouver? Like besides Canadians, is there Italian, British, Japanese, Etc.

2. How long does it take to get a Canadian Visa?

3. How big of a chance from 1 to 10 is it for her to get a decent job with her non-speaking issues?

~She currently works at the bridge crossing over to the US, she manages the money and supervises what happens. She has a college degree. Not much but enough.

~ I know I should do my own research but I trust you guys and you've answered my other questions fantastically & you usually get it right.

Thank you very very much. :D

  1. 1. Vancouver is about 30 percent chinese and 20 percent other asian

    2. Depends on what kind of visa.  BC has a provincial nominee program.  She would need a job offer in one of the fields they need people in.  Check out http://www.ecdev.gov.bc.ca/ProgramsAndSe...  It's supposed to be fairly fast.  A couple of months to get the work permit and a few more months to get the permanent residency.  Should be all done within a year.

    3. I can't answer that.  It depends on where she is from.  If she finds a job working for somebody who is from her country, the non-speaking issue might not be an issue.  It also depends on what she does.  There are jobs where she might not have to speak so much.  Since you speak English, why aren't you teaching her?
