Question:

Immigration by sponsor?

I hear about people obtaining permanent resident status in the US or Canada by having someone "sponsor" them.

How does that work? Does it mean that I have a good friend over in the US with a lot of money, can he vouch for me and get me a greencard? (Or for Canada?)

  1. Well, for sure here in Canada the person you sponsor must be a family member, spouse, common law partner or conjugal partner.  I'm pretty sure it is the same in the US.
