Question:

Immigration from UK to US problems!?

by  |  earlier

My boyfriend is trying SO hard to immigrate to the United States Legally, but we keep running into problems! He is from England and I live in Texas. He technically didn't graduate 'high school' but English schooling standards are a lot different than American standards. It seems hopeless that he will be able to legally enter the US any way besides us getting married, which we COULD do, but that seems so 'un-romantic'.

I'd appreciate anyone who has been through this process, or knows anything about it offering me as much advice, websites, or clues as to how to get through it.

It seems like all the informative websites cost REDICULOUS money to get info. from.

Thanks!

  1. Try the UK.  And don't drive angry.

  2. If you love him, time to get married if you want to being him to the US!

I answered you in your Immigration post too, but really, the family based method is your best and fastest shot.

http://www.familybasedimmigration.com will help you sort it out.. it's not hard!

  3. You can't just wake up one day and say "oh well, I am going to immigrate to the U.S.".  He must have a reason to immigrate.  This includes a sponsor who must be willing to support him. The reason cannot be that he is love with you.  If you can, find him a job over here that needs someone with his skills.  He can come on a "work visa" and if the company is willing to sponsor him then he can get his green card.  Or he can come on a "student visa" and then go from there.  The only other way is for you to marry him.

Edit : You can try www.uscis.gov.  That is the immigration site that could answer your question.

If you have researched all the alternatives then I am not sure what else to tell you.  There aren't many other options in this day and age.  Sorry I couldn't help you much.

  4. We have no jobs now.  Leave him there.

  5. how is it you are in texas and he's in england unable to immigrate here?  is this another online thing? i agree with rick - leave him there and get on with your life.

  6. Try going the other direction, and get yourself a visa to live and work in the UK: http://www.transitionsabroad.com/publica...

  7. I HAVE NOT

  8. Even if you get married he still has a process he has to go through, just being married does not cut it to get the citizenship. The government needs to make sure that it is for real. It is a long process
